Some of the ships had brought petrochemicals and were planning to go back carrying corn. Petrobras says it won\u2019t sell them fuel because of US sanctions and the Brazilian President said he is aligned with US policies on the matter. The Iran-Brazil Chamber of Commerce had earlier said that both governments were looking into a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tehrantimes.com\/news\/438021\/Iran-Brazil-seeking-barter-trade-in-face-of-U-S-sanctions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">barter system<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to cope but the situation is now escalating.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-bunge-bp\/bunge-and-bp-team-up-in-brazil-bioenergy-venture-create-no-3-sugarcane-processor-idUSKCN1UH15O\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bunge and BP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> confirmed a plan to merge their Brazilian cane milling businesses this week. The joint-venture, BP Bunge Bioenergia, will be the third biggest milling group in the country and will focus on ethanol and electricity. Bunge said this was a \u201cmajor portfolio optimization milestone.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/retailer.ru\/osnovatel-rusmoloka-prodal-svoju-dolju-singapurskoj-kompanii-olam-international\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olam<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> bought the remaining 25% shares in Rusmoloko, a major dairy producer in Russia, becoming the group\u2019s only owner. This makes Olam the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/infopressa.com\/2019\/07\/18\/naym-babaev-nalil-rysmoloka-singapyrskoi-olam\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">biggest foreign investor<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the country\u2019s dairy industry, followed not far behind by Vietnamese group TH. Olam plans to double the group\u2019s milk production in three years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmprogress.com\/sustainability\/cargill-sets-30-ghg-reduction-target-2030\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cargill<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> announced a new initiative, BeefUp Sustainability, which aims to reduce the group\u2019s North American beef supply chain\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030. The company will be working with The Nature Conservancy as well as joining the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalhogfarmer.com\/livestock\/cargill-maschhoffs-among-advisers-added-manure-challenge\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manure Challenge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a US-based competition to find the best ways to deal with manure through cross-industry collaboration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, sources said that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-07-18\/louis-dreyfus-shakes-up-top-trading-jobs-in-turnaround-bid\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Louis Dreyfus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is yet again making internal changes, including appointing several new heads of department and merging palm and oil businesses into one, among other changes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/news\/coke-s-coffee-zero-sugar-sodas-lift-2019-goals-1563904976499.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coca-Cola<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported net revenues of USD 10 billion in Q2, up 6% on year thanks to a 4% volume growth. The CEO said this was thanks to a growing demand for their no-sugar drinks and smaller packages. Reformulated and new products now bring in a quarter of the group\u2019s revenues, from 15% in 2017. Similarly, sales of healthy snacks, sparkling water and smaller packaging helped <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/07\/09\/pepsico-q2-2019-earnings.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pepsi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s net income increase to USD 2.04 billion in Q2, from USD 1.82 billion in the same period last year. PepsiCo said it will be spending USD 1.7 billion to buy <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/pepsi-expands-in-africa-with-1-7-billion-deal-11563530797\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">South Africa\u2019s Pioneer Foods<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of a plan to expand in sub-Saharan Africa. The strategy includes growing the sustainable farming program in the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coca-Cola and PepsiCo both left the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plasticsnews.com\/news\/coke-pepsi-exit-plastics-association-greenpeace-claims-victory\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plastics Industry Association<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a move which was hailed a victory by Greenpeace. Several companies have left the lobbying group over the past year amid concern over sustainability issues and reducing plastic use. Greenpeace argued the association was responsible for lobbying for laws in 15 US states that prevent local governments from banning or taxing plastic bags. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/talkbusiness.net\/2019\/07\/watchdog-groups-sue-tyson-foods-allege-false-marketing-of-environmental-stewardship\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyson Foods<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, meanwhile, is being sued for false advertising about its environmental commitments. The organisations behind the lawsuit argue that, with hundreds of wastewater violations and ongoing use of dangerous chemicals, the organisation is misleading consumers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wri.org\/publication\/creating-sustainable-food-future\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the World Resources Institute said it was necessary to increase the use of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fooddive.com\/news\/study-gmos-are-needed-to-feed-the-planet-in-2050\/559004\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">genetically modified (GM) crops<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to feed the estimated 10 billion people the world will have in 2050. It forecast that the world needs to produce 56% more food than in 2010, for which it would need an additional 1.48 billion acres of land all the while meeting the Paris agreement greenhouse gas emissions targets.
