Let us know in the comments if you want us to continue.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brazil\u2019s agribusiness logistical map is about to be turned \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/exame.com\/economia\/portos-amazonicos-vao-desbancar-restante-do-pais-no-transporte-de-graos\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">upside down<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d. Ports in the Amazon region, the so-called Arco Norte, are expected to handle over half of the country\u2019s soy and corn exports, up from 23% in 2010 and overtaking for the first time ports in the Southeast and South. It costs USD 300\/mt to transport grain from Mato Grosso to Santos Port, double what it costs to take the grain to Miritituba in Para where it is taken in barges to the Port of Vila do Conde.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Export costs could fall further if the plan for Ferrograo, a railroad connecting Mato Grosso to Para, goes ahead. Another railway project, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.progresso.com.br\/cotidiano\/nova-ferroeste-podera-transportar-35-milhoes-de-toneladas-no-1o-ano\/380871\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nova Ferroeste<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, would connect Maracaju to the Port of Paranagua and help reduce transport costs by a third. Both projects are opposed by environmentalists but an official argued that one 100-wagon train would replace 357 trucks. The government also invited the private sector to submit projects to create a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.udop.com.br\/noticia\/2021\/04\/07\/governo-de-sao-paulo-propoe-novo-corredor-ate-porto-de-santos.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new route from Sao Paulo to the Port of Santos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The project also attracted objections from environmentalists in the past but an official said the idea would be to create a zero carbon highway. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/exame.com\/economia\/portos-amazonicos-vao-desbancar-restante-do-pais-no-transporte-de-graos\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Analysts said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> logistics bottlenecks were the biggest challenge for Brazilian agricultural exports but investments such as these will give the country a competitive edge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, local media reported a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/g1.globo.com\/economia\/agronegocios\/globo-rural\/noticia\/2021\/04\/04\/agricultores-sofrem-com-falta-de-armazens-em-mato-grosso.ghtml\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shortage of grain storage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> space last week in Brazil\u2019s Mato Grosso. Despite recent investments, the country\u2019s total grain storage deficit increased from 12 million mt in 2010 to 94 million mt in 2019. Ongoing dry conditions combined with stronger domestic demand have pushed up the domestic price of corn. One corn ethanol producer warned that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.istoedinheiro.com.br\/etanol-milho-baixa-oferta-pode-sustentar-precos-mas-ha-desafios\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">corn was so expensive<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it didn\u2019t make sense to make ethanol from it at the moment. The situation is expected to get tighter with many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.noticiasagricolas.com.br\/noticias\/soja\/284655-agroconsult-eleva-safra-de-soja-do-brasil-a-mais-de-137-mi-t-ve-riscos-para-milho.html#.YHVhehMzbfb\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">analysts downgrading the corn harvest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> due to the drought.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agweb.com\/news\/crops\/corn\/corn-prices-inch-closer-6-usda-april-wasde-report-data%20%20https:\/\/www.istoedinheiro.com.br\/forte-demanda-por-milho\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago corn futures rallied<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to an 8-year high last week. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/global-grains-idAFL1N2M12FS\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">USDA downgraded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the US\u2019 end of year corn stocks to a 7-year low due to higher demand from the ethanol sector as well as strong export demand. It also reduced the forecast for planned corn planting next year. Analysts expect prices will continue going up &#8211; fertiliser prices have risen by close to 100% in the past year and there continues to be strong demand from the ethanol and export sides. However, they flagged that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/platts\/en\/market-insights\/latest-news\/agriculture\/040821-us-corn-export-shipments-up-4-on-week-6-from-prior-four-week-average-usda\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China bought a lot of corn<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which it hasn\u2019t shipped yet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.confectioneryproduction.com\/news\/34522\/nestle-joins-major-industry-initiative-tackling-southeast-asia-deforestation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nestle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the latest to join the Rimba Collective, a USD 1 billion project that aims to protect and even reforest some 500,000ha involved in the Southeast Asian palm oil supply chain. Launched by Lestari Capital, the project already involves the likes of Wilmar and PepsiCo. Nestle said \u201cwe are evolving from a no-deforestation strategy to a \u2018forest-positive\u2019 one.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.confectionerynews.com\/Article\/2021\/04\/12\/Olam-International-claims-100-traceable-cocoa-from-its-directly-sourced-supply-chain\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olam<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported that 2020 was one of its best years ever. The tradehouse saw a 36% increase in operating earnings to USD 678 million despite the pandemic. On top of that, it announced it was now able to trace all of the cocoa it sources directly, which represents 12% of the world\u2019s cocoa beans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-04-08\/beyond-burgers-china-s-plant-based-protein-market-maturing-fast\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ADM<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> expects that its plant-based protein business will overtake its crop trading business in size by 2050. The company said it was already the world\u2019s biggest plant-based protein provider. ADM is planning to invest more in plant-based protein in China where it is seeing an uptick in demand. China is looking to boost food safety and reduce carbon intensive farming, which will contribute to the country\u2019s plant-based protein market growing from USD 10 billion in 2018 to USD 14.5 billion in 2025, ADM noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is talk that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-impossible-foods-m-a-exclusive-idUSKBN2BV2SF\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Impossible Foods<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is planning an IPO which could fetch USD 10 billion. The group saw USD 7 billion in retail sales in 2020, up by a third when compared to the previous year. Prospects are good, Reuters noted, given that Beyond Meat\u2019s share price increased fourfold since its IPO two years ago.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Good Food Institute estimated that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thecounter.org\/funding-investment-plant-based-proteins-meat-consumption\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a record USD 3.1 billion was invested<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the alternative meat market in 2020. However, US sales of meat still increased by 19% in the past year. But this is not all bad. A new study found that the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drovers.com\/news\/beef-production\/us-beef-industry-most-sustainable\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">US beef industry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reduced its carbon footprint by 40% between the 1960s and 2018 while making 66% more beef &#8211; making it the most sustainable beef production system in the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, not all vegan burgers were born equal.
