Ukraine says it has been extended for 120 days, while Russia says it is only for 60 days.<\/p>\n<p>Russia has laid out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/russia-ties-further-extension-grain-deal-lifting-restrictions-2023-03-20\/\">their conditions<\/a> for agreeing to any further extension, including restoring access to the SWIFT system for state-owned agriculture-focused bank Rosselkhozbank, resumption of farm machinery supplies, and unblocking foreign assets and accounts held by Russian agricultural companies.<\/p>\n<p>The FT has an excellent long read on how Russia\u2019s invasion has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e0d9607e-f313-4fa6-91d5-ec32039fe632\">destroyed<\/a> significant parts of Ukraine\u2019s grain export infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine\u2019s farmers are planting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-03-22\/ukraine-farmers-plant-even-less-grain-for-second-wartime-harvest\">less acreage<\/a> than last year. The International Grains Council forecasts Ukraine\u2019s grain output at 47 million mt, about half its pre-war level. The government has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agriculture.com\/markets\/newswire\/update-1-ukraines-2023-combined-grain-oilseed-harvest-seen-falling-10-in-2023\">warned<\/a> that the 2023 combined grain and oilseed harvest could fall to 63 million mt, down from 70 million mt harvested in 2022. Ukraine\u2019s exports have particularly hurt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/news\/romanian-agriculture-faces-collapse-amid-mass-ukrainian-grain-imports\/\">Romania\u2019s<\/a> farmers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other market news<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The La Ni\u00f1a weather phenomenon has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agricensus.com\/Article\/La-Ni-a-officially-ends-50-of-El-Ni-o-forming-in-2023-BOM-27770.html\">officially ended,<\/a> but there is a 50 per cent possibility that an El Ni\u00f1o event could form later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s annual food price inflation hit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-03-22\/uk-inflation-accellerates-unexpectedly-sticking-in-double-digits\">18 per cent<\/a> in February, the highest level since the 1970s, pushing the Consumer Prices Index up by 10.4 per cent compared to a year earlier. Brazil voluntarily halted exports to China on 23<sup>rd<\/sup> February after discovering an atypical case of mad cow disease.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a surge in African <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/chinas-pig-farms-battle-new-surge-african-swine-fever-2023-03-15\/\">swine fever infections<\/a> in China could reduce domestic pork production.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland has reported a case of mad cow disease &#8211; bovine spongiform encephalopathy (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/switzerland-detects-case-atypical-mad-cow-disease-2023-03-14\/\">BSE<\/a>) &#8211; in the eastern region of Grisons.
